Talk Together

Family conversations with God’s Word.

What do you think of when you hear the word great?

If you want to see the tallest mountain in the world, you should visit Mount Everest. If you want to swim in the world’s biggest ocean, you could visit the Pacific Ocean. People marvel at these incredible natural wonders because of their greatness. As magnificent as those things are, they are nothing when compared with the greatness of our God. He is worthy of all our praise.

Psalm 145 is a song of praise written by King David. This psalm praises God for His greatness and the mighty things He has done. Psalm 145:3 tells us the Lord is great and worthy of all of our praise! Can you help me find Psalms? Look for it in the Old Testament. Let’s read Psalm 145:1-7 together:

ESV

I will extol You, my God and King, and bless Your name forever and ever. Every day I will bless You and praise Your name forever and ever. Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised, and His greatness is unsearchable. One generation shall commend Your works to another, and shall declare Your mighty acts. On the glorious splendor of Your majesty, and on Your wondrous works, I will meditate. They shall speak of the might of Your awesome deeds, and I will declare Your greatness. They shall pour forth the fame of Your abundant goodness and shall sing aloud of Your righteousness.

God’s greatness is unsearchable. This means we cannot fully understand God’s greatness — and that’s good news!

Humans have limited knowledge and power. But, we serve a God who knows how many grains of sand there are on the beach and created the countless stars in the sky. King David says in this psalm that God’s great works will be shared from generation to generation — and they are! Throughout the Bible and today, God shows us He is worthy of our praise.

Many things may come to mind when we think of the word great, but none of them are as great as our God! Our God is glorious, wonderful, incredible and so much more. The Lord our God is worthy of all our praise.
