We’ve all experienced that awkward moment in grade school when it’s time to pick teams. You’re standing there in that excruciating moment the team captains are sizing up their options, weighing who’ll be picked first and who’ll be left for last.
The chances are, you know what that feels like. Nobody wants to be picked last, left out or forgotten.
We desire to find community, to experience acceptance and to fit in. So often, we are categorized by others and “sized up” in terms of our appearance or our abilities, our strengths or our interests. But this is not the way of Jesus.
When Jesus died on the cross, He died for the whole world (John 3:16-17). Nobody is picked last, left out or forgotten in His kingdom. Nobody’s judged based on the superficial categories of this world. His forgiveness is available to anyone who calls on Him because His sacrifice on the cross was perfect and complete.
This week, let’s encourage every kid we encounter that the Lord is good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to ALL who call on [Him]” (Psalm 86:5). Followers of Christ can be confident that they are forgiven and free because of Jesus’ work on the cross, independent of anything they could ever be or hope to achieve.
