Allegations

Responding to Allegations

We love and care for God’s children. Our hearts break over reports of child abuse, and the thought of it happening in church … it’s tragic. But we also know we live in a fallen world where terrible things happen, even to children.

If your church finds itself on the receiving end of an allegation, there are ways to handle it well. It is critical that your ministry has a written response protocol to ensure alleged victims, as well as alleged perpetrators, are cared for while complying with the law to encourage proper investigation.

Here are some questions you should ask yourself and your team, related to allegation response. We recommend you create notes for future reference. For more information, see ECAP Child Safety Standard 5: Response.
