Talk Together
Family conversations with God’s Word.
Tell me about the best book you have ever read. What made it such a great story? Sometimes, when you hear someone read a book out loud, you can picture the characters or see the setting in your imagination. God is the ultimate storyteller; and in the Bible, we read the true story of how God created the world.
In the beginning, there was nothing, nothing except God, that is. There were no insects, no sunflowers and no planet Earth. But God has always existed. He made the pebble you kicked down the sidewalk and the air that fills your lungs. All He had to do was speak; and when He did, He created the most amazing things! He created this Earth and everything on it, including you and me. Let’s read more about it! Can you help me find Genesis 1:20-26?
ESV
And God said, “Let the waters swarm with swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the heavens.” So God created the great sea creatures and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarm, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. And God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.” And there was evening and there was morning, the fifth day. And God said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures according to their kinds — livestock and creeping things and beasts of the earth according to their kinds.” And it was so. And God made the beasts of the earth according to their kinds and the livestock according to their kinds, and everything that creeps on the ground according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
Wow! Look at everything God created in only six days! He not only created things like the sun and plants and animals, but He also made them out of nothing. He spoke them into existence with just His words. When I make something, I need materials like a pen and paper to draw a simple stick figure! But God made something as delicate and beautiful as a butterfly’s wings from nothing!
Not only did God create everything, but everything was created for Him. We were created to bring glory to God! Some ways we do that include following His Word, living like Jesus and praising Him for His great works and goodness.
This week, whenever you think of your favorite animal, pause and remember our Creator made that creature and the things it needs to survive. He masterfully created everything in this world for His glory — including you and me.
