Before You Begin
A few weeks ago, I found a little note stuffed in my purse. On a scrap of paper ripped from an old coloring page, my 11-year-old daughter wrote, “Dear Mom, Please pray for my weaknesses and ask God to turn them into strengths. She’s incredibly shy and struggles to get the right words to come out at the right time. But she has faith in an almighty God who can turn her weakness into strength.
Her note got me thinking, do I struggle to talk to God the same way she struggles to talk to people? Even as adults, we can get overwhelmed with saying the right things with the right words so that our prayers somehow sound worthy of being heard.
But God doesn’t care about any of that. He just wants to hear from His kids. And when we call on Him in truth, with the words that we have – He is near – and He is everything we need.
Can you imagine what a difference it would make in our kids’ lives if they knew they had access to God’s presence every time they prayed? For the next three weeks, let’s lovingly teach our children to humbly call on the Lord- anytime, and about anything.
