Find it in the Bible: Genesis

This week’s story comes from the book of Genesis. Genesis is the first of five books in the Old Testament known as the Pentateuch.

We can’t be completely sure who wrote this book, but many believe it was Moses.

This book contains many well-known Bible stories, such as the creation of the world, Noah and the flood, and the story of Abraham.

OT–NT Connection

This week’s memory verse is from the New Testament book of Galatians, but it references Abraham from the Old Testament! Read Galatians 3:25-29.

What promise is verse 29 talking about?
Have you decided to be part of God’s chosen family?

Why did God give Abram and Sarai new names?

Even though Isaac wasn’t born yet, God changed Abram’s name to Abraham, which means “father of many.” Sarai’s name became Sarah, which means princess. God always does what He says! Abraham became the father of the Israelite nation, and their long-off descendant was Jesus, our King!

How can I know I’m part of God’s chosen family?

We become part of God’s chosen family when we trust in Jesus as our Savior! (John 14:1-3) Like this week’s memory verse says, all who are in Christ are Abraham’s offspring. All Christians are part of the chosen family of God.

Journal

Ask an adult to help you look up a family genealogy of a historical figure. Sometimes we think of genealogies as a long, boring list of names, but you can find cool facts in genealogies!

They show us how people are connected. Write down in your journal what you learned about the historical person’s family and what you learned about Jesus’ family from our passage in Genesis.
