I have four grandchildren, three girls and one boy. As you can imagine, sometimes there are conflicts among them, squabbles and disagreements. From time to time one or the other of them goes a little too far and someone’s feelings get hurt.
It’s always interesting to watch when their mom or dad steps in and tells them to apologize. Sometimes neither the apology nor the forgiveness is very genuine. They satisfy mom’s requirements; one says, “I’m sorry,” and the other says, “that’s OK.” In fact, I remember the same thing happening between my sister and me when we were little. Each of us sins and disobeys God in our attitudes or actions. It’s part of living in a fallen world.
But I’m so glad God does not forgive as we do.
Sometimes we do our best to forgive others, but inside we still hold onto the hurt or the pain of whatever happened to us. However, when we confess our sins to God He forgives us completely! In fact, Psalm 103:12 says that God removes the guilt of our sins as far as the east is from the west.
This week, let’s ask God to help us become parents, grandparents and loved ones who model forgiveness. Talk with your kids and grandkids about the One who forgives us so completely that He remembers our sins no more.
