How has the original text been preserved over time? There are so many different languages and translations!
The Bible has been translated into over 700 different languages. Bible scholars do not take the translating of God’s Word lightly. Accurate versions are translated directly from the original languages (Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic). The number of existing biblical manuscripts from both the Old and New Testaments far outnumber the existing fragments of any other ancient literature. This shows us God preserves and protects His Word.
How can we be sure the writers who wrote about Jesus were telling the truth?
2 Peter 1:16 says the apostles did not make up clever stories but instead were eyewitnesses of Jesus’ majesty. The Holy Spirit led the writers of the New Testament to write the books and letters. In addition, other people would have also been around Jesus, hearing Him teach and seeing what He did. If the New Testament writers lied about Jesus, the other believers alive at the time would have called them out as liars and false prophets.
Why is there no New Testament found in the Dead Sea Scrolls?
The books of the New Testament were written between 45 AD and 100 AD. The people and events of the New Testament were happening at the time when the Dead Sea Scrolls were being created. Remember, the people who created the Dead Sea Scrolls were not the original writers of the books of the Bible; they were making copies of the books of the Old Testament.
Why isn’t Esther included in the Dead Sea Scrolls?
No one knows for sure why the book of Esther isn’t included in the Dead Sea Scrolls that have been found so far. Some believe that scroll has disintegrated over time, and others believe it just hasn’t been discovered yet. Maybe someone will solve this mystery in your lifetime!
What is a proverb?
The word proverb means a short saying that offers wisdom. The title of this book in the Hebrew Bible is “The Proverbs of Solomon, the Son of David, King in Israel.” Solomon isn’t the only writer, but he originated or collected most of the proverbs in this book. We read in 1 Kings 3 that King Solomon asked God for wisdom, so all of Solomon’s wisdom in this book came from God.
