Have you ever found yourself in the middle of a difficult situation and wondered, “Why me?” Since we don’t always understand God’s plan for us, it’s easy to think we’re being punished or we’ve done something wrong.
But sometimes, God uses trials to advance the Gospel. Paul was no stranger to trials. He would suffer much for the name of Christ, but that suffering gave him the opportunity to share the Good News with Gentiles, Jews and even kings. Many of Paul’s Gospel opportunities occurred in the midst of very difficult circumstances.
When we talk to our children about following Christ, they need to know they WILL face trials. Friends will scoff at their beliefs and make fun of their convictions. Difficult days will come, and it will be tempting for them to blame themselves, others or even God.
But we can help our children build a foundation of faith now, teaching them to trust God will work all things together for their good. And during the hard times, we can pray God uses any and every situation they face to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
