What Should I Do When I Get to Serve Others?

Dear Father, Please open our hearts and minds as we study the book of Philippians and reveal Your will for our lives. Help us rejoice, because we know you! Amen.

Tell your children about a time God helped you set aside your personal desire to do something, and instead put someone else first. What did that look like?

Serve those around you by pulling weeds or assisting someone with a different chore. Pray with your child before you leave, and ask God to give your child a cheerful, unselfish attitude that shows Jesus’s love to your neighbor.

Think of a friend who needs encouragement and bake a treat for them. Before you deliver the treat, pray and ask God to help you be an encouragement to your friend.

Setting aside your desires and putting others first is hard! Help your child show the love of God to another child by inviting a friend over to play. Help your child plan ways to put their friend first. This could include thinking of a game their friend would like to play, or a snack their friend would enjoy.

Ask your child to think about something they enjoy doing every week. Can they share that activity with someone else this week?

Here are some ideas:

– Share a special activity, such as a trip for ice cream, with a friend.

– Share time with someone by asking how you can be of help to them.
