How Should We Remember Mistreated Christians?

Every year, my daughters look forward to the 4th of July parade in our hometown. I think they’re really just interested in the free candy; but it allows us to see the floats, wave at friends and enjoy a picnic lunch with family. Sadly, we often get through the pasta salad, s’mores and fireworks without once stopping to praise God for our freedom to worship our creator and openly read His Word.

Since the beginning of the church, Christians have been persecuted. But that didn’t stop the spread of God’s Word. Followers of Christ traveled throughout the Roman empire spreading the Good News. The family of God was persecuted and thrown into prison. Some even willingly gave their lives for the Gospel so that families like ours could know Jesus, centuries later.

There will be days our children feel left out or even mistreated because of their faith. There may be times they will have to stand alone, following God’s ways instead of the world’s. Let’s pray our children become resilient disciples, able to face the trials of life standing firm on God’s Word. And let’s pray for our brothers and sisters in Christ throughout the world who know nothing of the religious freedom we enjoy.
