Find it in the Bible: John

This week’s memory verse comes from the book of John. John is the last of four books known as the Gospels. The book is written by the disciple whom Jesus loved, John. The book of John tells about the miracles or signs of Jesus.

OT–NT Connection

In the Old Testament, followers of God showed God’s love to each other too. Christ had not come to Earth yet, but God instructed His people to love their neighbors.

Let’s read about it in Leviticus 19:17-18.

How were God’s people instructed to love their neighbors?
How can you show a friend or family member God’s love today?

What are some practical ways I can show people love?

Everyday, opportunities come up where we can show people God’s love. Here are a few examples: Help your mom or dad load the dishwasher without being asked. Ask a friend who is having a hard day if you can pray with them to encourage them. Share the story of how Christ loved us so much He died and rose from the grave to save us from our sins. There are many more ways to share God’s love with others. What ideas can you think of?

Can I share God’s love with people I don’t know?

Yes! Remember how in this week’s verse Jesus commanded His followers to love one another? When we do that, we show everyone around us the love of Christ is working inside us. You can also look for opportunities to help people in need.* This can be as simple as holding the door open for someone who has their hands full.

*Remember, don’t approach strangers without an adult you know and trust present.
