In the book of Numbers, God gave Moses instructions about the daily, weekly and even monthly sacrifices the priests needed to make. When you include the special offerings made on the Passover and various other feasts, it’s easy to see that the priests’ jobs were never done! They offered the same sacrifices every single day, but they never really removed the people’s sin. It was just a temporary covering until the next sacrifice.
But when Christ offered the sacrifice of His own life, He didn’t need to repeat the sacrifice daily. When He made His single, perfect sacrifice and His work on Earth was complete, He sat down at the right hand of God, where He remains to this day.
After Jesus returned to Heaven, He didn’t stop His ministry to God’s people. It may be hard for our children to grasp His current role as advocate and intercessor for His people, but we can encourage our children that the same Jesus – who loves them so much that He died for them – is currently sitting at the right hand of God, pleading for His children. Because of His perfect sacrifice, we can boldly approach the throne with confidence, where we will find mercy and grace in our time of need. Praise God that Jesus, our Advocate, always lives to make intercession for us.
