Talk Together

Family conversations with God’s Word.

Have you ever looked at a fascinating bug or a beautiful flower and wondered how God could make it so interesting? Tell me about your favorite plant or animal that God created. What makes it so unique?

In the beginning, God made towering trees, lightning-fast cheetahs and crunchy orange carrots. He made the fiery, hot sun and the twinkling stars that light up the night sky. Think about all the marvelous things God created

Then God created people. When He created people, God made them different from everything else He created. Let’s read about it in God’s Word! Can you help me find Genesis chapter 1, verses 26-28? Genesis is in the Old Testament and is the very first book of the Bible.  (Bigger kids can read Genesis 1.)

Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him, male and female he created them. And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

The first family, Adam and Eve, were created by God and lived in the garden of Eden. They were in charge of naming and taking care of the animals and working in the garden. They listened to God and spent time with Him. They had a perfect relationship with Him and with each other.

Did you know people are the only thing God created in His image! Being made in God’s image means you are a unique reflection of God. God created people to be like Him, with the ability to share some of His attributes, or characteristics. In the book of Galatians, we are told some of the attributes God has given us. We can show these attributes to everyone around us so they can see how great God is!  Can you help me find Galatians 5:22-23? Galatians is in the New Testament and is a letter written by Paul to a church in Galatia.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

Just like a mirror reflects your image when you look in it, you can reflect God’s image to others when they look at you! As you treat others with love, joy, peace, patience and kindness, you will show them a beautiful reflection of who God is. As you grow in faithfulness, gentleness and self-control, you will become more like your Creator.

God intentionally created you in His image, and you can reflect His image to others. You are part of God’s Big Story!
