What does the Bible say about how God created me?

God created you in His image. He made you unique. The Bible says we can praise God because we are “fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14). The Bible also tells us about our identity. As followers of Jesus, our identity is “child of God.” John 1:12 says “But to all who did receive Him, who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God.” When we are children of God, we will love and obey our good Father. Since God is our Creator, we can look to His Word to answer our questions about how He made us and wants us to live.

How was the world created?

Sometimes you may hear, “Humans evolved out of nothing over billions of years.” But what does God’s Word say about this? The book of Genesis tells us how God created the world. In chapters 1 and 2, we read God created the world in six days (and rested on the seventh day), not over billions of years! God’s Word also says God spoke His creation into existence! God created the world and everything in it with His words! Romans 1 tells us God shows His eternal power and divine nature to us through His creation. When we see the world around us, we don’t need to wonder how it got here. Instead, we can praise God for His “very good” creation.

Why does Genesis 1 say God made us in “our” image?

In Genesis 1:26 the Bible says, Then God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. Who else was with God the Father when He created the world? In the book of John, chapter 1, we learn Jesus, God the Son, was with God when He created the world. Before Jesus came to earth as a baby, He lived in heaven with God. Read John 1:1-4. Anytime you see the word “Word” in this passage, it is referring to Jesus, God’s Son.

If God created us in His image, why do we sin?

Next week, we’ll cover the next chapter of God’s Big Story: the Fall, and discover how sin changed God’s perfect creation.

  • Read Psalm 33:6-9 and praise God for His good creation.
