Talk Together
Family conversations with God’s Word.
Do you know what a compass does? It helps people find the right path to follow and guides them home.
Before Jesus died on the cross, He told His disciples He wouldn’t be able to stay with them on Earth forever. When Jesus finished His work on Earth, He returned to heaven.
But He didn’t leave Christians alone to navigate this broken world. Jesus asked God the Father to send a chosen Helper to guide us through life, like a compass that guides hikers and helps them stay on the right path. Let’s read about the Helper in John 14:15-21 and 25-26.
ESV
“If you love Me, you will keep My commandments. And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. You know Him, for he dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Yet a little while and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you also will live. In that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you. Whoever has My commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love Him and manifest Myself to Him. These things I have spoken to you while I am still with you. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.”
Did you hear Who Jesus promised to send the disciples? The Holy Spirit, Who is also called the Helper and Spirit of Truth!
But how does the Holy Spirit help believers? When we pray, the Holy Spirit talks to God the Father for us. In other words, He intercedes for us. He also guides Christians to the truth of God’s Word and lives inside us forever. This means the Holy Spirit will help us when tricky situations arise. He is fully God and part of the Trinity.
Jesus is the descendant of Abraham, the King worthy of all our praise, the Messiah promised from ancient times and the perfect sacrifice to save us from our sins. When Jesus went to heaven, He didn’t leave us alone. He sent the Holy Spirit, the perfect Helper, to guide us and help us follow Him.
